Short vowel sounds... and so much more!
Posted 10/18/2017 09:00AM

Naturally, our early childhood students review the concept of short vowel sounds by listening carefully to the middle part of a word.

Not content to use rote recall methods for this identification, teachers paired students and gave them Code-a-pillars, robots designed especially for early learners to develop and write algorithms. Each pair was assigned a short vowel word, then programed their Code-a-piller to move across the room to land on the correct short vowel box.

The result? Students refreshed their short vowels skills but also built a variety of other skills, including collaboration and problem-solving. Further, they gained access to early computer science skills, paving the way to interest in an in-demand career area.
