Play Dough in AP Psych Not Just Fun and Games
Posted 09/23/2017 04:00PM

A glimpse into Emily Philpott's AP Psychology class shows students using textbooks as references. But the real learning is centered on play dough.

Yes, you read that correctly: play dough. Ms. Philpott's recent lesson had students collaborate in small groups to build model brains out of play dough. "This is harder than it looks," one student was overheard to say.

It may look like fun and games, but over the past five years 86.8% students scored 3 or above on the AP Psych test, and over the past five years the mean AP Psych score was 4.286 of out 5.0.

[Further note that at SGIS, unlike some other schools, all students enrolled in an AP class are required to take the AP test.]
